Bang Integra by IntegraLive

Programme Note

I created the music in close collaboration with the Athelas Sinfonietta and Birmingham Conservatoire’s Electronic Music Studios, and used the electronics to explore the specific sound and the musicality of the ensemble. Through recording sessions with each participating musician, I consciously let the musical personality of the individual shine through, both through instrumental improvisations and personal interviews. An electronic sound bank was created with the materials from these recording sessions which were later used in the live electronics. Composed material is mixed with improvised solos where the musicians interact with an electronic “sound pool patch”, and occasionally fragments of the musicians’ voices intervene.

Integra Composers

Integra commissioned eleven European composers to write works including an electronic element in the period 2005 – 2008.

In the next phase of our activities, Integra is now preparing to release details of five major new commissions, all of which have been awarded in 2010. Each composer will write a new work using the Integra:Live software for ensemble, live electronics and other media. These pieces will be premiered in September 2011, with second performances taking place before the end of November 2011. Further information will be displayed in the tabs above soon!
