Programme Note
This work was commissioned by Integra as part of the Culture 2000 programme of the European Union, and the electronics have been realised in collaboration with the composer Kent Olofsson from the Malmö Academy of Music. Ça Tourne Ça Bloque presents a three-part image of Japan. The sound samples feature French-speaking people being entertained by Japan, or by the voice of a singer retelling her dream. I am interested in the inherent musicality of the spoken voice, when the meaning of a word changes according to its musical role. The material for this piece has been recorded during my visit to the villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. My special thanks go to Masako, Gilbert, Pascal et Robert.
Biography
Ondrej Adamek composes orchestral, chamber, vocal and electroacoustic music and collaborates with choreographers of contemporary dance. Currently he is working on projects for Percussionists de Strasbourg, Brandenburg Sinfoniker and the Lucerne Academy Orchestra (conducted by Pierre Boulez). In his sonic language he combines aspects of contemporary classical music with transformed elements from distant cultures. A tendency towards simplicity of musical expression is balanced by thoroughly elaborate colours of sound.
NB
This piece was composed during the first phase of the Integra project and as such does not use the Integra:Live software.
