Following the official definition, Integra is a "3-year cooperation agreement led by Birmingham Conservatoire and supported by the Culture 2000 programme of the European Commission". In more direct terms, it is an exciting new opportunity to bring together research centres and new music ensembles across Europe.
Who are the project partners? Eight research centres (La Kitchen, Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, NOTAM, Malmö Academy of Music, CIRMMT, Krakow Academy of Music, SARC and Birmingham Conservatoire) and five new music ensembles (Courtcircuit, BIT 20, Ars Nova, Athelas Sinfonietta and BCMG), plus the Association of European Conservatoires.
Our main goal is to create a software-based open source environment for composing and performing music with live electronics, and test it in real life thanks to new commissions and a big modernisation effort of existing repertoire using obsolete technology.
Integra is really two projects together: an artistic one, with an intense schedule of activities (training, workshops, commissions, concerts, performance events) and a scientific one, focusing on software development and repertoire migration. We believe that this unique combination, and the constant dialogue between the two souls of the project are the key to Integra's success.
All partners are very committed to the project, but we know that our ambitious plans need the support of a growing community in order to realise their full potential. If you or your organisation are interested in what we are doing, let us know.
